What is Yoga Therapy ?

Yoga Therapy refers to the adaptation and application of Yoga techniques and practices to help individuals facing health challenges at any level manage their condition, reduce symptoms, and restore balance.

The International Association of Yoga Therapist defines Yoga therapy as “the professional application of the principles and practices of yoga to promote health and well-being within a therapeutic relationship that includes personalized assessment, goal setting, lifestyle management, and yoga practices for individuals or small groups”.

Medical research shows that Yoga Therapy is among the most effective complementary therapies for several common aliments. Numerous well-designed studies of yoga and meditation have documented a wide range of health benefits including decreases in blood pressure, heart rate, arthritis, anxiety, and depression, and increases in range of motion,  sleep, and neuroplasticity.

Yoga Therapy is a holistic health system that blends the ancient teachings of yoga with the latest advances in mind-body medicine. This synthesis of yoga postures, deep breathing, relaxation, meditation, guided imagery and releasing techniques, provides a natural antidote to the stress of contemporary living and promotes overall health.

Yoga Therapy is adapted to fit your specific needs and/or health condition. Specific regimens of postures, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques are tailored to suit individual needs.

Yoga Therapy provides the opportunity to step away from the busyness of the outside world and access the deeper wisdom and healing that resides within us.

What is Yoga Therapy: About Me

What You Can Expect When Working With Me

You do not require any prior yoga experience to work with me.

After an initial consultation, we will establish your goals and together we will co-create a customized therapeutic plan for you.  In follow-up one-on-one sessions, we will work together using a variety of yogic techniques and strategies to address your specific health concerns.

While yoga therapy can be an ongoing process, it is my intention to provide you with the skills and tools to manage your condition and meet your health goals.  I will support, guide and empower you to enact your own personal agency, and eventually continue your practice and healing on your own.
